Venture into the remote alpine wilderness on the Buller Huts Trail

A challenging and rewarding adventure for experienced hikers

The Buller Huts Trail is a challenging 96km, 7-day Grade 5 alpine trek for experienced hikers. The circuit commences on Mount Buller, high in the Victorian Alps, and traverses remote alpine terrain, including steep climbs, exposed ridges, and river crossings.

Weather conditions can change rapidly, even in summer, so it is essential to be well-prepared with the appropriate gear and skills. Hikers should be self-reliant and able to navigate in difficult terrain.

The Buller Huts Trail is not for the faint of heart and requires careful preparation

For those who are up for the challenge, it is an unforgettable experience.

The Buller Huts Trail can be hiked in any direction, and from any access point, but it’s recommended to follow the suggested itinerary to tackle the most challenging ascents early when you have more energy.

Multiple side trips lead to peaks and huts slightly off the main route, which will require additional days to visit.

Challenging and Rewarding

A Grade 5 Trek (Difficult)

The Buller Huts Trail connects a series of historic high country huts

Embark on a journey through time and glimpse into the region’s past.

Huts scattered throughout Victoria’s high country offer glimpses into the region’s rich history and culture. Visit Bluff Hut, Lovicks Hut, Vallejo Ganther Hut, King Hut, Craigs Hut (a film set for The Man from Snowy River), Bluff Spur Hut, Geelong Grammar School Hut, and Howqua Gap Hut.

Not all campsites are located near huts, and huts are for emergency use only, so hikers should be self-reliant and plan to pitch their tents.
